Senior Design Engineer

Location: Headquarter office (Old Saybrook, CT) preferred, remote work considered

TELYON is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to expand its capabilities in all aspects of system investigations and design. The Senior Design Engineer will report to the EPC Director, and will work closely with the pre-construction, design, procurement, and construction teams. This position will also work with third party consultants and customers to manage the overall design process, develop projects specifications, obtain permits, and develop budgets.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work with external engineering firms to design layouts and electrical diagrams for commercial rooftop and ground mount solar arrays that conform to building code and off-taker requirements utilizing software such as Helioscope, AutoCAD, and PVsyst
  • Oversee the engineering of specific projects including detailed design specifications, equipment selection, and interconnection and permitting processes
  • Review utility interconnection and facilities studies
  • Maintain a general knowledge of design issues related to relevant building codes, new technologies and products, industry trends, utility requirements, vendor qualifications
  • Update and maintain engineering standards and best practices
  • Review electrical/ structural/civil engineering and racking drawings to ensure optimal and code-compliant designs
  • Perform energy production modeling to provide details, layouts, and single-line diagrams
  • Evaluate risks to projects in the design phase and leads discussions on solutions
  • Identify and qualify engineering/design consultants for various future commercial solar installations, evaluate their proposals, and make selection recommendations
  • Manage ongoing relationship with third party engineering/design consultants to ensure timely and quality deliverables
  • Provide technical support on commercial solar projects through development, permitting, construction, and O& phases

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Five years of direct Solar PV design engineering experience
  • Familiarity with construction drawing standards
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Helioscope, PVsyst, Excel, and Procore
  • Familiarity with the National Electric Code and other applicable state and local codes
  • A Professional Engineer (PE) license or an Engineer-In-Training certificate with a defined path to pursue a PE within two years highly desirable
